Nikita & Lina Season 1 Episode 3

Send us a text

Ever celebrated New Year's Eve in two time zones at once? We did, and it was a riot! From scrambling to channel our inner pop divas with last-minute fashion choices to sharing virtual toasts with loved ones continents away, our New Year’s escapades were anything but ordinary. Join us for a hilarious recount as we build excitement for a year bursting with house parties, playful banter, and vibrant storytelling. We promise a journey through witty reflections, funny fashion mishaps, and the joy of starting the year on a high note.

And if laughter is the best medicine, then our tales of unexpected New Year's shenanigans, a less-than-magical "Wicked" experience, and the nostalgia of VHS tapes are the perfect prescription. As we navigate the quirks of generational gaps and reminisce about outdated tech, we also touch on personal growth and relationship epiphanies, all sprinkled with hypothetical weddings in sunny Mexico. With playful nods to true crime favorites like "Dateline," we wrap up with a heartfelt wish for a prosperous and safe New Year. Tune in for smiles, safety tips, and a delightful start to the year!

Are you ready to start this?

Lina:

Oh, I'm ready.

Nikita:

Welcome back,

Lina:

Hey, guys, hey.

Nikita:

Welcome back to Two Voices,

Lina:

one, Vibe

Nikita:

How are you?

Lina:

I'm good. Happy New Year, Nikita.

Nikita:

Happy New Year,

Lina:

happy 2025.

Nikita:

Isn't that that wild?

Lina:

How is this possible?

Nikita:

Um, it's what comes after 2024.

Lina:

I'm not really sure, though, how it happened so quickly. Have you started writing 2025 yet? Has it tripped you up?

Nikita:

I have not had to write the date yet.

Lina:

Yeah, I have been struggling with that, like in text messages and in emails, but I haven't actually physically written it with my hand yet

Nikita:

Like on a check or something..

Lina:

So so that might screw me up.. My cleaning ladies are coming next week, though, so I'm going to have to leave the check for them.

Nikita:

Well, let's hope you have to write the date before then.

Lina:

I'll have . to predate it because they're coming on Tuesday, but I won't be here.

Nikita:

First, that's right. Why won't we... wait a minute... We have so much to talk about!

Lina:

So much, so much, New so Year's much!.

Nikita:

But let's start with a recap, since this is our first podcast of 2025.

Lina:

It sure is. it

Nikita:

First . we're dropping this year. Let's start with a recap of your New Year's because you had plans. Unlike some of us.

Lina:

So did. I had New Year's recreation plans had come New Year's prior. Um, it was . fabulous!

Nikita:

Was it?

Lina:

It was, it was really great. So it started out with, I think I told you this, around three o'clock in the morning I couldn't sleep, so I started ordering outfits off Amazon for New Year's.

Nikita:

Yes.

Lina:

So all my outfits came in and you had come over and we were trying on outfits.

Nikita:

Well," we weren't trying them? on, you were trying them on and I was critiquing.

Lina:

It, it was a joint effort.

Nikita:

Okay, I'll give you that.

Lina:

Um, so I ended up settling on an outfit that made me look like I was on stage with Beyonce.

Nikita:

I thought you said Britney Spears.

Lina:

It was a little bit of Britney. It was a little bit of Beyonce. So, like Britney, because Britney and I have the same birthday, so I always have my inner Britney, um, and Beyonce, because it was like super shiny and mesh and fabulous.

Nikita:

Glittery.

Lina:

Yeah.

Nikita:

I wouldn't say shiny.

Lina:

Yeah. Well, it was like doused in rhinestones, so we'll have to put up a picture, so that way, anybody who's not just

Nikita:

we

Lina:

Yeah. We have pictures. So anybody who's not just um tuning in to listen to us, but who's actually watching the podcast, can see my New Year's outfit.

Nikita:

Oh, I'm so excited.

Lina:

Not something that I think I'd ever have worn before.

Nikita:

It's definitely out of your comfort zone.

Lina:

Oh, for sure. It's definitely giving me Li na vibes "all night long."

Nikita:

Let's not, let's not get copyrighted.

Lina:

That's my thing. That's my thing, um, but yeah, so it was great. So we, I met him at his house, like we did the last time, and then we jumped in the car and we went over to this bar.

Nikita:

Wait a minute..

Lina:

Yes?

Nikita:

You met him on a dating app.

Nikita:

Right the first time you met him in person, you went to his house?

Lina:

Oh no, no, we had gone out a bunch of times before I met him for New Year's.

Nikita:

Because I just totally had a "Dateline moment

Lina:

We had gone out on multiple dates before we spent New Year's together, yeah, so we had been seeing each other for a while and then we had New Years.

Lina:

So he had asked me if I want to meet him there or if I want to meet him at his house and just take one car. So I said we'll just take one car.

Lina:

That makes more sense.

Nikita:

Plus, it's New Year's and you know

Lina:

I don't want to worry about drinking and driving, and he's much closer than I am anyway.

Nikita:

Okay.

Lina:

So we went in his house, jumped in his car, went over to the bar. Had a couple drinks, which was really nice. Got to meet everybody and I think I was mentioning to you that he wasn't actually born in this country.

Nikita:

Yes.

Lina:

So they do this thing where they celebrate when the ball drops in the country that he's from,

Nikita:

right,

Lina:

so it's actually five hours before our New Year's here. So by 7 o'clock we're all toasting and cheersing with everybody in the bar and there's a ton of people from the same country at this bar. Um, so we're are all celebrating the New Year together with everybody that's back home for them, so everybody's kind of like Facetiming their family back home.

Nikita:

Oh, that's cute

Lina:

They have a live feed to bars in towns in their country where they're

Nikita:

Aww

Lina:

And and so you get to see everybody kind of celebrating the New new Year year there.

Nikita:

fun.

Lina:

So yeah, it was a lot of fun. Um,

Nikita:

Did he call anybody from his home country?

Lina:

He

Nikita:

Aww

Lina:

Yeah.

Nikita:

Did say"hi"

Lina:

"happy Was

Nikita:

Was everybody like, "who's that girl?

Lina:

I think they all know about me.

Nikita:

Oh!

Lina:

I know!

Nikita:

That's kind of weird.

Lina:

That's what I said!

Nikita:

Okay

Lina:

Yeah, so it was a lot of fun. So then afterwards we were going to a house party

Nikita:

Mm-hmm.

Lina:

So he tells me while we're on the way to the house party, "l he's going to be some people there that were friends of mine and my ex-wife, and his ex-wife has since passed away. So they were divorced and then she passed away.

Nikita:

Okay.

Lina:

So I'm like, "oh, okay, that's cool. I'm glad you just told me now on the way to the party. He was really cool about it, he was like listen if at any point you feel uncomfortable or awkward And they're like you know, he's never brought anybody to any of these parties before. So I'm like, oh, that was nice and awkward. It was a little awkward. So it was nice that I was able to, you know, have some drinks and chit chat with other people while he was off doing his thing, and it didn't feel weird at all, even though I'd never met any of these people.

Lina:

So a few hours into the night at some point, he walks over to me and he says to me I just want to let you know, that's my ex-wife.

Nikita:

Wait, isn't? She passed?

Lina:

That's what I said. So I was like wait, I thought she was dead.

Nikita:

Did you really say it just like that? I did, I said it just like that.

Lina:

But he was walking away and he didn't hear me. And one of the other women heard me and she comes over and she's like no, no, I can assure you his ex-wife is dead. So I look at her and I'm like are you sure? And she's like I'm sure I was at her funeral. So I was like I was like well, god rest her soul. I'm like, but didn't he just say that's my ex-wife? And he's like no, no, no, he said that's Mike's wife. But because he has an accent, it sounded to me like that's my ex-wife and I just kind of had a moment and I'm like this is getting all sorts of awkward. So he was trying to say that's Mike's wife, which was somebody who he was just trying to put two and two together after drinks and accenting. I heard that's my ex-wife and I'm like this is really weird. Um, so anyway, we had a really great time, um, and at the end of the night he was kind of like want to go to Mexico

Nikita:

Mexico,

Lina:

Mexico.

Nikita:

That's a random question at the end of a new year's eve.

Lina:

So it's not really so. My nickname is the invite queen.

Nikita:

Yes, we've talked about this,

Lina:

am invited, will travel.

Nikita:

Yes, and I got you luggage for Christmas, so now you don't need to borrow.

Lina:

Yes, and you see, I posted that on my Instagram and I said when you get luggage for Christmas and you don't have any offers.

Nikita:

I saw that post.

Lina:

Yeah Well, he saw that post too. So he made an offer and he said Mexico, we're leaving Friday.

Nikita:

Wait, wait, you're leaving Friday.

Lina:

Yes, as in four more sleeps till Mexico. But who's counting? Yeah, so I get to christen my new luggage that you gave me and I get to go on vacation.

Nikita:

That's exciting. Where in Mexico are you going, do you know?

Lina:

Yeah, so we're going to Riviera Maya

Nikita:

, okay,

Lina:

and we're going to spend six nights there.

Nikita:

That's fun,

Lina:

so I'm super excited it's freezing here.

Lina:

It actually snow snowed today, so I am ready for some sunshine and sand and I don't want to sit here and act like it's been forever. I need a vacation because I know I was on like three weeks of vacation

Nikita:

I wasn't gonna point that out

Lina:

a month ago but I want to go and you only live once and I work hard and I have vacation time and I actually have vacation time that I rolled over from last year that I get to use. I have a surgery coming up, so I figured now would be a really good time just to kind of like enjoy myself, before I have downtime and I won't be able to travel and I won't be able to do stuff. So I'm really looking forward to it.

Nikita:

Okay, make sure your locations are still shared, which I know they are.

Lina:

They are, however, like how fast are you going to come find me when I'm in Quintana Roo, mexico?

Nikita:

Where there's a will, there's a way, and I will make sure he knows that I will shank him.

Lina:

Okay, we're going to have to work on your Espanol so you can ask all the hombres where your amiga is.

Nikita:

I speak Spanglish.

Nikita:

Fluently Thanks to work.

Lina:

I speak Spanglish. How about you? Do you speak Spanglish? I do too. No, no, mi Espanol es muy bueno

Nikita:

. Okay, that's enough of that.

Lina:

Mas autentico, Awesome. Más auténtico. No, sí I can, can you roll your R's?

Nikita:

I can

Lina:

Yeah, mm-hmm. Okay,

Nikita:

not on demand.

Lina:

Well, that's really, you can't just.

Lina:

Um, what was that? Yeah, I can Arriba arriba,

Nikita:

yeah, no, no, okay, that's enough of that

Lina:

Don't be jelly because you're not going to Mexico Friday.

Lina:

You're going to Thailand.

Nikita:

I was just going to say I ain't jealous of you going to Mexico. I'm going to Thailand.

Lina:

Don't be mad at me. Yeah, I'm excited for your Thailand trip

Nikita:

I know I'm so excited.

Lina:

Can we talk about how you're already packed?

Nikita:

We can talk about how I'm already packed and my boyfriend is already packed.

Nikita:

Well, for what it's worth, we are going to Thailand for 15 days. So I mean, it's a. It's a significant trip, yeah, and we went to Europe in the summer, and when we went to Europe, we packed one big suitcase that we shared. He had his carry-on, I had my carry-on, and dragging a big suitcase through Europe is not fun. So we said let's do this in carry-on and backpacks only, so we both have a carry-on. So we are literally packing for a 15-day trip in a carry-on and a backpack only. So

Lina:

that's insanity.

Nikita:

Oh yeah, but that's how we roll, yeah, so, but we're gonna do, we're gonna do laundry while we're there. It's super cheap to get your laundry done and they wash it, they dry it, they fold it the whole nine yards and they give it back to you and it's all ready to go. So so we are both completely clothing packed. I think my boyfriend is actually completely toiletry packed too.

Lina:

That's nuts.

Nikita:

He's doing a little bit better than I am in that department, but I still have. I need to use my toiletries. I don't have extras, so I have some of them packed and then, right before I go, I'll pack all my electronics and whatnot. So, yeah, we're, we're packed and we're putting the finishing touches on our trip and I can't freaking wait.

Lina:

I'm so excited, so excited for you. Yeah, so, before we get into any Thailand stuff, why don't we talk a little bit about your Europe trip and what happened on that trip? Oh yeah, that's a good story. That, yeah, not if you were you or your boyfriend, but for everybody else it's a good story

Nikita:

Yeah, but you know what? I think we're gonna save that for our next episode and we can talk about my europe trip and other trip. Shenanigans deal between both of us okay, but I thought today, you know, would be just a good time for kaya to walk in front of the camera, mama thank you.

Nikita:

I thought today would be just a quick update for our listeners and our viewers of your new year's shenanigans and, uh, my new year's shenanigans, which were very mild compared to yours. It was a riveting night in our household. Um, my little one and I watched wicked, which I zero out of ten recommend, and I know that is not the popular opinion. I know people are all, oh my god, wicked and I'm like, yes, wicked. And then I watched it. I was like, no, wicked. And even my little one. She was like I just want to hear my songs. And I'm like, well, what songs do you want to hear? And there's, there's two songs going around tiktok. One is the alphaba glinda song.

Lina:

Okay,

Nikita:

but that's not in the movie and I didn't know that. So when that song didn't come on which was the one song she was really looking forward to doing, it didn't come on in the movie she's like mom.

Nikita:

Where's my song?

Lina:

so is this just like an extra song that's on the soundtrack,

Nikita:

I don't know if it's on the soundtrack or if it's just like a tiktok sound. And then the other one. I don't know the name of it, but it's some again popular song on tiktok. I'm very up on my music, as you can tell, but that song was in in the movie so she enjoyed that. But did you know that that movie is two and a half hours?

Nikita:

two and a half hours.

Lina:

Do you remember back in the day when, like, titanic first came out on vhs

Nikita:

Oh, two, two vhs tapes,

Lina:

two tapes. You actually had to stop and take it out and replace it with the second one.

Nikita:

Do you know what's sad.

Nikita:

My kids don't know what a vhs recorder or vhs tape is

Lina:

have you you seen like those TikToks and those reels where people are going up to kids and they're like do you know what a walkman is? And they're like a man that walks, wait. And they have these random questions, yeah.

Nikita:

So, okay, at my job there oh, I love you there is a girl I work with. She's 22 years old. I love her. She's like my adopted daughter at work good kid, anyway, she's 22, so the majority of the people in the office are all 35 plus, and I mean there's older people in the office too, but the majority of us are all in that 35 to like 45 50 age gap.

Lina:

Okay,

Nikita:

so we have a couple of girls. There's the one girl that I was talking about. There's, there's a handful of other kids who like kids like 18, 19, 20, 21 kids, and we'll all be talking about something and they're like what are you talking about? And then we're like do you know what an eight track is? And they're like no, yeah, one of us somebody said do you know what a cassette tape is? She was like no.

Nikita:

I was like, oh my god

Lina:

I asked a kid once if they knew what a vhs was, and they're like is it an std? Like no, no, no, no, it's not and I don't want to talk to you anymore.

Nikita:

Yeah, yeah, well, the best is these kids and I'm not just talking about like the kids that I work with, I'm talking like my kids, who are 10 and 7. My oldest wears an acdc shirt and she has no idea who acdc is.

Lina:

Your kids are actually 10 and 8, but that's okay, I'll let that one slip.

Nikita:

10 and 8, yep, yeah but my oldest wears an acdc shirt and she has no clue who acdc is

Lina:

. It just looks cool

Nikita:

exactly

Lina:

, yeah.

Lina:

Well, that's just like. You see those guys that wear the different baseball caps from different teams and I'm like, oh, you're a kansas city fan. They're like, no, just match my fit. I'm like the red flag, okay, yeah, that's like 18 red flags yeah,

Nikita:

that's a whole nother podcast in and of itself too,

Lina:

although I have learned to walk away from the red flags and not think it's a carnival, because I'd be like oh, red flag, red flag, red flag.

Lina:

I love carnivals

Nikita:

but did we really learn that lesson yet?

Lina:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did.

Nikita:

Oh, I hope so.

Lina:

Yeah,

Nikita:

so it's not a red flag to go to Mexicoxico

Lina:

no, because I know him and he's actually a really good guy. Okay, yeah, no, he really is. I think it'd be a red flag if I was going to mexico with somebody that I didn't know or somebody that I had met online and for the first time, we're meeting in mexico, or something

Nikita:

yeah, that would be a massive red flag and I have to commit you to yeah, the same asylum, or?

Nikita:

something.

Lina:

I think that'd be different. But I mean, we've known each other for years, you know. We've been dating for months now you know,

Nikita:

oh, is it official or

Lina:

no? No, it's not official. Okay, we've been going on

Nikita:

seeing each other.

Lina:

Yes, yes, having dinner together and those types of things. Yes, we've been seeing each other. Yeah, it would be a red flag, like if I came back from mexico married

Nikita:

, I'll kill you.

Lina:

Yeah, that would be a red flag,

Nikita:

and then your mother will kill.

Lina:

Yeah, that'd be a really interesting episode of Dateline. See, I brought that full circle.

Nikita:

Why don't you? I can't wait for you and Dateline. Did you watch? Text Me when You're Gone.

Lina:

I didn't.

Nikita:

Text Me when you Get Home.

Nikita:

Sorry, text Me when you Get Home.

Lina:

I put it on my list of things that I need to watch

Nikita:

. It's on Hulu, yeah, and then what was the other show?

Lina:

I don't have Hulu, so next time I stay at your house I will watch it.

Nikita:

Yeah, well, I can give you my Hulu sign in too

Lina:

Perfect.

Nikita:

But what was the other one? Oh, the TikTok killer.

Lina:

Oh yes, did you watch that one?

Lina:

I did watch that one.

Nikita:

Was that not wild?

Lina:

Yeah, that was crazy. Crazy People are nuts. Yeah, I'm just saying I really mean him. He wasn't anything that special. No, we should become TikTok famous. I think we can make reels.

Nikita:

Your stomach might become TikTok famous

Lina:

.

Lina:

That's Annabelle and she's part of my esophagus and she's here to stay. So she wanted to join us today and she was like, hey

Nikita:

, because that's not weird.

Lina:

Yeah, totally not weird at all.

Nikita:

Okay, well, on that note, do you have anything?

Lina:

Do you want me to share how my 2025 was off

Nikita:

? I mean, it's been a doozy. So if you're willing to share, please,

Lina:

totally willing to share.

Lina:

So everybody says, like my year started off with a bang, yours literally started off with a bang. So Kaya, who makes her guest appearances quite often, my Aussie doodle, baby, puppy girl, kaya bear. So Kaya started heaving right and I knew she was going to puke and she runs downstairs by the front door. So I decide let me run down to the front door and open it so she can go outside and puke, so I don't have to clean up after her. So I run as fast as I can, totally miss the steps, fall right down the stairs and I mean, I hit the ground so hard. I checked the tile because I thought it cracked. My knee hit the tile so loud. It was an audible crack

Nikita:

. Did you break a kneecap or anything?

Lina:

It's possible. I mean, when I've sent pictures of my knee to people, they're like have you gone to a doctor? Because that looks serious. But I haven't. So that happened.

Nikita:

But we're going to go to Mexico.

Lina:

Yeah, we're going to go to Mexico. It's going to be fine.

Lina:

I did tell the guy that I'm going to Mexico with like you might want to be careful because you might be getting a lot of sideways looks from people that may think that you're beating me like actively, because I'm now covered in bruises. So I have bruises on my wrist, I have bruises on my knee, I had a very sprained ankle that was like a little bit of an egg shape. And then you know the sign that you're getting old the arch of my right foot hurt. How, why, I don't know. I think that's just the sign of getting old, because the arch of my foot hurt. So all of that happened. So that was really interesting. So that was my soiree into 2025. It kind of came in with a bang.

Nikita:

Yeah, mine was not that exciting.

Nikita:

I have nothing to compare that to

Lina:

Well, so we'll take a good picture of my knee and we'll post it in case anybody is interested in what it looks like. So I was laughing because today I was working from home and I had run upstairs to use the bathroom and my work phone was downstairs and it started ringing.

Nikita:

Haven't you learned that you went in stairs? Do not cooperate, so you should not be running up or down them.

Lina:

That was the thing I went to go run to go down the stairs to grab my work phone and I hit the very first step and I said, nope, if I missed the call, I can call whoever it is. This is not happening. I'm not doing it,

Nikita:

not when I leave for Mexico in four days.

Lina:

Yeah, I was like I need to be in one piece, so I think that would be the only other thing that I'd like to share to our podcast.

Nikita:

Well, there you go, my friends. You heard it first.

Lina:

Some of us had great New Year's and then interesting days after New Year's.

Nikita:

Yeah, you know so we hope you guys had a healthy and happy New Year and we will see you in the next one.

Lina:

Yes, Everybody be safe, be good and we will talk to you soon. Thanks for listening to us. On Two Voices, One Vibe.
